I imagine the word turnip was derived from or caused the use of the expression &#8220;whatever turns up&#8221;; because they grow all over the place, turning up all over the garden as volunteers.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not a big fan of this vegetable cooked, but raw it is quite good. I like to shred this veggy with carrots, and radishes and mix it up in a salad.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1050\" style=\"width: 550px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.itfarmersblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/import\/kohlrobi.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1050\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1050\" title=\"Kohlrabi\" src=\"http:\/\/www.itfarmersblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/import\/kohlrobi.png\" alt=\"Kohlrabi\" width=\"540\" height=\"529\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1050\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kohlrabi<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The kohlrabi is a bit small for this time of year, and I&#8217;ve been watering it every few days with the fall planted cucumbers. Kohlrabi has exceptional <a href=\"http:\/\/www.naturalhealth-solutions.net\/healthy-eating\/healthy-eating-kohlrabi\" target=\"_blank\">health benefits<\/a>, and it&#8217;s taste is pretty good. I&#8217;ve also found out that it is sometimes referred to as &#8220;Space Cabbage&#8221;, seems fitting to me.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1051\" style=\"width: 550px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.itfarmersblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/import\/carrots.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1051\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1051\" title=\"Carrots\" src=\"http:\/\/www.itfarmersblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/import\/carrots.png\" alt=\"Carrots\" width=\"540\" height=\"405\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1051\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Carrots<\/p><\/div>\n<p>I&#8217;ve also dug up some of the carrots to see how they are progressing. I&#8217;ve tried simply pulling a few out of the ground by their leaves, but they always seemed to snap off at the base of the stem, so I used a pitch fork to prod the dirt.
